Description

The Claree valley's secret paths: Hiking holiday in Clarée with guide

A discovery of the valley of Clarée off the beaten track…

This stay is aimed at those who wish to discover Clarée in a different light, with more original itineraries, avoiding the most popular GR routes. Our team of guides will take you into the wild valleys of the valley, in search of a somewhat hidden lake or towards a lesser-known peak, to enjoy and immerse yourself in its exceptional territory. Always with the pleasure of sharing their knowledge of local history and geography with you. A 5-day stay of fitness walking (with 800 to 1000 meters of elevation gain per day), on original routes: a good holiday program for curious hikers and mountain lovers!

Every evening when you return to the hotel, you can recover in the restorative bubbles of the Jacuzzi, in the Sauna for a detox sweat, or under the magic fingers of our masseuses which will help you fight aches!

PROGRAM OF THE HIKING HOLIDAY IN THE CLAREE VALLEY:

  • Monday: Colette de Biaune (2597 m), Lac Noir du Vallon:
We start with a short transfer (10 minutes) to Ville-Haute and the Lacou glacial lock. From the Sainte Barbe chapel, via a good winding path, we reach the southern foothills where the Biaune chalets are nestled. Then it is a large valley which welcomes us to climb off-trail up to La Colette at 2597 meters, a small pass which allows us to switch to its northern slope in the Vallon. An area popular with chamois, which we will keep an eye out for! The descent joins the small Black Lake then the banks of the Vallon torrent which brings us back to the village.
    Elevation difference: + and – 800 to 1000m. 5 to 6 hours of walking.
  • Tuesday: Loop from the Oule valley to the Cristol valley. Pic du Longet (2573 m) optional.
From the hotel, we set off on foot along the Clarée to find the start of the path which climbs into the Oule valley through a beautiful larch forest on the Ubac slope. 600 meters higher, the larch opens onto the mountain pasture of the Oule valley. We continue along the bed of the torrent to first reach two pretty lakes then, off-trail, the ridge which leads to the peak of Longet (which we can do in return) and allows us to descend into the valley of Cristol. The superb Cristol Lake will offer us a little contemplative break in the afternoon, before diving back into the valley.
Elevation difference: + and – 900m (+ 100m for the summit). 6 hours of walking
  • Wednesday: Lake Biron, Pointe de Rochachille (2799 m)
From the end of the high valley road (1/2 hour transfer to the Laval car park), we will aim for the ridge which closes the valley and separates us from the Maurienne. Mountain pastures, little used by hikers but much by sheep in the grazing season, allow us to discover, off-trail, the small Biron lake: it is a real reward, with an original view of the valley! Then we continue along the ridge which extends towards Pointe de Rochachille, from where the view opens onto Savoie. We will be able to explore, always off the trails, this border sector to enjoy the panoramas before returning to the banks of the Clarée.
    Elevation difference: + and – 800m. 5 to 6 hours of walking
  • Thursday: Fort de l’Olive, Fort de Lenlon (2508 m), Vallon du Creuzet
On foot from the hotel and along the Clarée (in the other direction this time), we descend into the Arras woods to undertake the steep ascent of the Sapé and the Rocher de l'Olive: the army built there a fort at the end of the 19th century to watch over the border with Italy. The place is worth a visit (and the panorama is nice)! We climb further on the ridge to find another fort, little brother of the previous one: this will be our highest point. We will then descend, off-trail, through the Creuzet valley, attentive to the fauna that inhabits it. This loop can also be done in the other direction.
    Elevation difference: + and – 900m. 5 to 6 hours of walking
  • Friday: Vallon and Col du Raisin, Pic Ombière (2832 m)
From Fontcouverte, we reach the Raisin valley, above the Chardonnet refuge, to reach the ridge which separates the Clarée and Guisane valleys. From the Col du Raisin (2691 m) to the summit of Pic Ombière, we enjoy a magnificent view on both sides, with the high peaks of the Ecrins in the spotlight.
Elevation difference: + and – 850m (+150m for the summit). 5 to 6 hours of walking
  • Saturday: End of stay after breakfast
